Statement to voters

I’m standing for Mansfield North and Woodhouse in order to be able to better serve our community.

Full statement

I’ve been the Member of Parliament for Mansfield for the last four years, and so I spend much of my life working to make a positive change for our area; seeking investment, working with other organisations on plans, helping local people or asking them for their views on things.

Whilst we’ve made huge progress, my experience has taught me that there is a disconnect between national and local Government. It’s often been frustrating to find that different Authorities are pulling in different directions, or that funding I have secured on a national level is not used effectively on a local one. That’s why I think there is huge potential for us to better tie these things together and achieve more, by my being able to work for you at both national level and at the County Council.

I’ve stepped back from Government roles, and from climbing the ministerial ladder in Westminster, and instead I want to devote that time to our community. I’ll do whatever I can to ensure we get the changes and improvements we need, and that years of talking about it do eventually lead to delivery. Local residents deserve to see results.

If we can elect a strong Conservative team across the Mansfield area, then we’ll be better able to direct those local decisions and make things happen. Right now we’re reliant on others; on Labour or Independent Councillors, to decide for us, and for decades it’s not gotten us very far.

Whether it’s congestion on the A60, speeding in our residential areas, tackling antisocial behaviour or reviving Woodhouse High Street; these issues are best improved or fixed by every level of decision making being on the same page, and all pulling in the same direction. That’s what I hope to offer as your County Councillor. I will be able to bring those different decision makers together. I hope that you’ll lend me your support on May 6th.
